Food Delivery Boom Fuels New Wave of Demand for Thin-Wall Injection PP

2025-11-18

Thin-wall injection molding polypropylene (PP) boasts excellent processing performance and food safety, making it widely used in food packaging such as fresh food containers, fast-food boxes, and milk tea cups. With the rapid development of the food delivery industry, particularly as plastic fast-food containers represent a key downstream application of thin-wall injection PP, demand continues to grow steadily.

Since the beginning of this year, the food delivery market has experienced explosive growth. In the first half of the year, the output of thin-wall injection PP reached 1.17 million tons, with annual production expected to exceed 2.3 million tons, achieving a double-digit growth rate for the year. By 2025, the proportion of thin-wall injection PP output in the total PP production is projected to increase from 4.83% in 2020 to 6.27%.

Overall, the production of thin-wall injection PP is highly concentrated, with the top 15 domestic producers accounting for over 70% of the total domestic supply.

In contrast to the weak performance of general-purpose PP markets, thin-wall injection PP has demonstrated strong resistance to price declines and remarkable market performance, supported by steady demand and periodic tightening of supply. As of August 8, the mainstream price of domestic thin-wall injection PP ranged between 7,300 and 7,450 RMB per ton, maintaining a price difference of approximately 350 RMB per ton compared to PP filament. For September to October, the price of thin-wall injection PP is expected to remain between 7,300 and 7,500 RMB per ton.

Thin-wall injection molding technology is a key process in the modern plastics processing industry, with the core objective of significantly reducing the wall thickness of plastic products while ensuring strength and functionality. This method not only results in lightweight parts and flexible production scales but also effectively reduces material costs and shortens molding cycles. Thin-wall injection PP, with its excellent processability and food safety, is extensively applied in food packaging areas such as fresh food containers, fast-food boxes, and milk tea cups. Driven by the rapid expansion of the food delivery industry, particularly with plastic fast-food containers as a critical downstream application, demand for thin-wall injection PP continues to experience sustained growth.
